William’s Driving School · Broward County · 35 years
Plenty of adults never learned to drive. You will not be the first one we teach, and no one here will make you feel bad about it.

You are not the only one.
More adults are in your position than you would guess. Some grew up in a city with trains and buses and never needed a car. Some had a family that never had the time to teach them. Some tried once years ago, had one bad experience, and quietly stopped. And a lot of people drove for years in another country and now need a Florida license.
Whatever brought you here, we have taught someone exactly like you. To us it is a normal day at work.
The part people worry about most
What the first lesson is actually like
Most of the fear is fear of the unknown. So here is exactly how a first lesson goes, from the moment we pull up to the moment we drop you back home.
1
We come to you
We pick you up at your home or your work, whatever is easier. You do not have to get yourself to us, and you do not have to explain anything to anyone.
2
We start in an empty parking lot
The first lesson does not go anywhere near traffic. We drive to a large, empty lot where there is nothing to hit and no one watching. Just space.
3
You get comfortable before the car moves
You sit in the driver’s seat and we take our time. We adjust the seat so you can reach everything, set the mirrors, and show you the pedals. Nothing happens until you feel settled.
4
The instructor explains the dual brake
Every one of our cars has a second brake pedal on the instructor’s side. That means the instructor can stop the car at any moment. You are never the only person in control.
5
The first slow movement
When you are ready, you let the car roll forward a few feet. Slowly. Then you stop. Then you do it again. That is the whole first goal, and most people find it far calmer than they imagined.
6
We drop you back home
By the end you have started, steered, and stopped the car on your own. We take you home and you book the next one whenever you feel like it.
Most people get out of the car after that first lesson a little surprised at themselves. The thing they had been dreading for years turned out to be calm, quiet, and doable. That is the normal reaction, and it is the whole reason we do this the way we do.
Three things people tell us they were worried about
“I’ll be judged for being this old and not driving.”
You will not be. We teach adults every week, including people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Our instructors are hired for patience before anything else. Nobody here is keeping score.
“I’m going to panic or freeze.”
That is common, and the car is built for it. The instructor has a second brake and can stop the car at any moment. We go at your pace and stay in an empty lot until you feel ready for more.
“I don’t have anyone to practice with.”
You do not need to. We provide the car, the instructor, and door-to-door pickup. Everything you need to learn is included, so you can start on your own.
New to Florida?
Transferring a license from another state or country?
The paperwork can be confusing, and what you need depends on where you drove before and how long you have been here. You do not have to sort it out on your own. Tell us your situation on the phone and we will walk you through exactly what applies to you.

★★★★★
I am 54 and never learned as a kid. I put it off for years because I was embarrassed. My instructor never once made me feel behind. We started in a parking lot and by the fourth lesson I was on real roads. I have my license now.

They picked me up from work every time, which is the only reason I could do this at all. Patient people. I was a nervous wreck the first day and calm by the third.

Manejé por veinte años en mi país y pensé que sería fácil sacar la licencia aquí. Me ayudaron con todo el papeleo y practicamos hasta que pasé el examen. Muy pacientes y todo en español.
